Occasionally articles will appear which are not related to our main theme of hr management. Such articles will be a reflection or comment on a piece of news or something that I came across. Those articles will be found under the category of ‘Time to stand and stare’. Why am I using that name for a category?
I have borrowed it from the poem ‘Leisure’ penned by William H Davies which starts, “
“What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.”
I learnt the poem at an early age but much to the annoyance of family and friends I did not always remember the whole poem so the first four lines were oft repeated and met with a chorus of, ” For goodness sake, learn the rest of the lines”. Perhaps more annoyingly, I would recite the first few lines when I was being hurried up. So from time to time, I shall add a reflection of something that has caught my eye or a topic that I find astounding and in response,
” A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.”
The first such article will be be published on this blog in a few days time. Please be assured that we shall not be lessening our focus on people and organisational issues under our brand name of HR Management Dimensions. That remains our on going expertise and key topic.
For now, I leave you with the whole poem
What is this life if, full of care,
‘Leisure’ by William Henry Davies.
We have no time to stand and stare
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
